Frequently Asked Questions

1. When should I bring my child for their first dental visit?

We recommend bringing your child for their first dental visit by their first birthday or within six months of their first tooth coming in. Early visits help establish good oral health habits and allow the dentist to identify any potential issues early on.

2. How often should my child visit the dentist?

Children should visit the dentist every six months for routine check-ups and cleanings. Regular visits help monitor dental development, prevent cavities, and keep oral hygiene on track.

3. What can I do to prevent cavities in my child’s teeth?

Regular brushing with fluoride toothpaste, flossing daily, and limiting sugary snacks and drinks are essential. Consider sealants for your child! They are a protective coating applied to the back teeth, and ask the dentist about fluoride treatments to help prevent cavities.

4. When should my child start using toothpaste, and how much?

Children can start using a tiny smear of fluoride toothpaste as soon as their first tooth appears. By age 3, they can use a pea-sized amount. Make sure they spit out toothpaste after brushing and avoid swallowing it.

5. Are dental X-rays safe for children?

Yes, dental X-rays are safe when used appropriately. Our office takes precautions, such as using lead aprons and digital X-rays, which emit very low radiation. X-rays are typically taken only when necessary, to monitor growth and detect hidden issues.

6. How can I help ease my child’s dental anxiety?

To reduce anxiety, bring your child to the dentist early to familiarize them with the environment. Reading books about dental visits, showing positive reinforcement, and choosing a pediatric dentist who specializes in working with children can also make the experience more comfortable. We also have a bright and fun office environment equipped with a play area to help ease your child's worries.
